  1. "Hey There Cupcake!" is a temporary mural I just finished this weekend in the beginning of May. It will be up for the month of May until June where it will then be painted over and a new mural with be created. Beginning it I had no problems with the temporary nature of the project but as it came together and people enthusiastically commented on it I began to have less of a Buddhist "everything is always changing, nothing is permanent" train of thought. I'll just throw myself in front of my mural when they begin to paint over it! LOL!

This "octobabe" has been evolving for the past couple of years and at this point she's the best she's ever been. I'm drawn to the idea of a "twisted" siren as opposed to the typical mermaid you usually see. She's strong, confrontational and busy(what else would a woman be if she had 8 arms?).

Once I was walking down the block and a random guy said to me,"Hey there cupcake!". I actrually liked this "catcall" because it was fairly harmless and if anything it was unique. But as a woman and a female artist I don't want to be treated as such. I'm not a "groupie", not a ditz and certainly not someone to be stepped on. The skulls "Octobabe" sits atop represents a ferocious pride and will let you know it.

This mural is located at Hudson County Art Supply, 303 First St. Jersey City, NJ
